codymick FLAND Spring Conference Hotels 5 Apr 2 2009, 11:54 AM EDT by dpearson

I understand that the hotel rooms blocked for the FLAND conference in Jamestown were reserved at the Holiday Inn Express. This is one of the furthest hotels from the college in town and I would suggest that if you want a closer one to the downtown area and college, including the Buffalo City Grille for the dinner (walking distance), you could try the Gladstone Inn - I believe the prices were similar last I heard. The number is 701-252-0700.

The March version of the FLAND Newsletter has been sent out on e-mail - If you didn't get it, let me know at Jeanne.Hageman@ndsu.edu and I will send you a copy - It includes ALL the information for the Spring Conference in Jamestown - it is jam-packed - we even have some concurrent sessions this time! IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU REGISTER IN ADVANCE TO GET A HEAD-COUNT FOR SATURDAY'S LUNCHEON ON CAMPUS. Kate will be putting the newsletter up soon on the FLAND website as well, but I can send it easily - NDSU is closed but I am high and dry (so far) and working from home.

LeAnneqt changeyour keyboard to almost any language 1 Feb 19 2009, 9:04 AM EST by LeAnneqt

To change your keyboard to another language, go to Control Panel,
select Regional and Language Options.
Select the tab Keyboards and Languages,
click Change Keyboards.

Click Add,
find the language you want to add, click the plus sign beside it,
then click the plus sign beside keyboard and then select the language. You might have to change it to another language version later, depending on the needs of your students. Depending on the language, there might be several variations listed there. Click ok.
Then go to the tab Language Bar,
select Docked in the task bar, as well as Show text labels on language bar. This will put a little icon at the bottom right of your screen, showing you the code for the language that your keyboard is set to use on each page. I think it defaults to your default language for each new page you open so you might have to change the language as needed per page, but it is simple with that little icon there!
I hope this is helpful. My Thai student can type in Thai on any document on my computer with this set up. This also enables her to use the Thai2english site to search for words she doesn’t know in English, but knows in her L1. Enabling your keyboard will support your student’s L1, however they might need keyboarding skills in L1 in order to figure out how it is different from the English keyboard.
Please let me know if this was helpful for you or not.
