FLAND Spring Conference Hotels

I understand that the hotel rooms blocked for the FLAND conference in Jamestown were reserved at the Holiday Inn Express. This is one of the furthest hotels from the college in town and I would suggest that if you want a closer one to the downtown area and college, including the Buffalo City Grille for the dinner (walking distance), you could try the Gladstone Inn - I believe the prices were similar last I heard. The number is 701-252-0700. Do you find this valuable?

I am the guilty party who suggested the Holdiay Inn Express. Yes, the Gladstone is closer to downtown but that also means railroad noise at all hours of the night. I have had better success with the Holiday Inn Express than with the Gladstone when having out-of-town company visit. The Gladstone has a bar where smoking is allowed which leaves a smell that seeps into many of the rooms. Many of the rooms have a chlorine smell because of the central location of the pool. The pool and hot tub are older than the newer Holiday Inn Express facility. If the prices are the same, the nicer, newer and cleaner rooms are at the Holiday Inn Express. I called the Gladstone and I told them I didn't want to sound negative but had heard about a smokey smell in the rooms. She said there are some smoking rooms but that there are non-smoking on the complete opposite side of the hotel that one could have. She quoted me $81.99 for two people in one room. I said that we usually get state rate for our conventions and did she have a better price and that right now we were set up at the Holiday Inn Express. She said that if the Holiday Inn was giving us state rate that she would too which then would be $62.00. She also said that they were the only full-service hotel in Jamestown meaning we wouldn't have to leave for any reason than our meetings. - Carol Forster, Fargo

I would just like to take a minute here to thank Kate for arranging the hotel and much of the conference due to an unexpected resignation - I deeply appreciate all her work and effort, since I would otherwise have had to do it in all probability - and I know nothing about Jamestown, their restaurants, or their hotels. I think when we get a block of rooms, it is simply to facilitate the events and I encourage everyone to check the web, check with friends and read the wiki and select the best arrangements for them. We got stuck at the Gladstone one year with State Music and I was so freaked out I piled chairs in front of the door that led directly to the street. They put me, the accompanist, in a room by myself way on the end of the row because I always complained that the kids made too much noise! The girls claimed the sheets were dirty so they slept on the floor! (How's that for high school logic!)I wouldn't advise it. Do you find this valuable?
